Interesting comparison Ms. Bridgers. Currently, the HIV/AIDS pandemic has devastated some countries in many ways beyond specific health outcomes. These include economically, militarily and socially. Colin Powell even called the AIDS pandemic a threat to US security interests. Evidence supports the contention that the toll of wars in terms of lives lost is actually less than the most severe pandemics--AIDS alone will take millions this year. What makes pan flu different is the relatively rapid spread over the globe.
